Reveal...

So I showed you a few weeks ago the chair I happily scored at the local thrift store.  It was a bit pricier than I would have expected, but it was exactly what I wanted.  So, for $39 this chair came home with me.

{edited 12/13/09 to add text... where did the text go?!}

Here's the Before, and dramatic AFTER...

Above is what it NOW looks like!

Here's the photo journey of re-vamping this chair.

Tiny Footstool Project

After I purchased the chair I had been swooning after, I realized that to be truly comfy, I was going to need a footstool. Lucky me (again) I found this little beauty (project) the same day I realized I wanted one. The price? A cool $7.99. Solid wood, hinged lid, padded. Here's it's journey to refinishing to sit with my beautiful newly refurbed chair...

BEFORE:
AFTER:
I dismantled the padded top after I had already dismantled the legs and the wood base to paint it. All that took was a light sanding, a coat of spray white paint, and then 2 coats of Heirloom White paint. The fabric from the topper was used to cut the right size of the new fabric:

Close up of the fabric (which I purchased nearly 2.5 yards of for $6.50 on clearance + 50% off at Joanne's this weekend)
I was able to re-use the foam top, and simply pulled the fabric around and stapled together, doing the corners last. I think reattached the hinges, and stapled the black "slip cover" sheet again to the back.

Padded topper before re-assembly:

And, FINAL PRODUCT:
Total cost:
Footstool: $7.99
Paint & Primer: $0 (already had a pint of the paint, and a can of primer)
Fabric: this portion of fabric maybe cost $.50?

We'll call it $9. :)

Louis XVI chair

My chair's an antique! I've learned a little more about it tonight-

Style is considered Louis XVI... I've come across a lot of modern furniture companies offering great styles, but I decided to search the web for some more ideas on how to finish mine off. (I'm not sure painting it white is on tap any more...)

Which one do you like the best? I can't help but smile at the colorful stripe with white wood version :-)

Found THE chair!

I found the chair I want for my sitting/reading chair in our bedroom. Well, I found the frame I wanted- the fabric and the stains need to be mended.

This great chair was waiting for me to desperately snap it up. It's surely an antique, as, get this- the cushions are stuffed with HAY. HAY, as in HORSES. Crazy huh? It's been recovered once at least, but the integrity of this solid piece of wood furniture has remained. All the nailheads were individuals, not the trim like I used on my headboard project. Dismantling today took about 6 hours! I loved every minute of it.

I plan to paint it white, and cover the seat, back, and hand cushions in the same tweed as our headboard. Here are some ideas from Pottery Barn, and below, photos of the first half of this project:

Purple Kicker

On the cusp of painting our master bedroom a nice deep blue (see this post), I started to realize, that would make room #3 in my house that's blue! And the fiance thinks I have a problem with green???

So, because the 3rd room will become a babies room (and is currently a light shade of blue that we never see because the door is always closed) and room 2 is a color I chose (think grey/blue/green- color is "Blue Willow" by Pittsburgh Paints), I feel fine doing our master in blue, too.

So, how to keep these rooms separated with a color in the same family? Well, how does purple sound? I had planned on Orange in the front lighter blue room, and a lime green in the darker blue room, but, now that it's become Fall here in California, purple is sounding delish.

Here are some great photos I found scouring for "purple accessories against a blue wall" on google. Which is your favorite? Am I off my rocker? *Note, first image essentially shows the blue wall color that this lovely shade would be up against on the walls. :)
