As I mentioned in my previous post, I am hoping to be more fiscally responsible this year since our expenses are growing with a little one.
One thing I've missed out on through 2010 was decorating, because there was just no time. I want to revamp our home again in 2011, and I thought a neat project would be to tally the amount spent in 2011 on my projects & decor for the house.
So, on the sidebar now, there will be a Decor Cost: 2011 tally section. (see it over there, on the right side bar?) I'll update that after my projects or revamps and purchases for the house are made. I hope to do a lot with a little... what a game to play!
How do you keep tabs (or not!) on your budgets for decorating and making your house a home? Do you set goals to spend, or do you put money aside? Let me know your way of keeping your home fresh, but while being fiscally responsible.
WELCOME!
Happy 2012!
Welcome, won't you stay a while? There's so much to do, and we hope to share it all with you this year. Design, crafts, frugal living... You'll find this and more at Design-Aholic!

Stepping back in, slowly
Happy May Day, everyone!
I'm glad to say, I'm slowly stepping back into blogging. I'll tell you soon what's been going on in the last few months here at our homefront. There's so much in store.
But, in order to not overwhelm myself, I'm slowly stepping back in. Like that song: She waded in the water but she didn't get it wet, yet..." You know the one. Tell me you know the one. I'm not crazy am I? :)
Anywho, this is my official, I'm back note to you all. I hope wherever you are in the world right now that you're enjoying your space, your family/friends, and life.
Thanks for sticking with me, and to my awesome followers that I gained over the last 2 months, even without a post, YOU rock. :)
Take care all, and soon...

Blog Changes: Small Blog Party Buttons
Don't you just love all those blog parties each week?! It's a really great way to see new blogs, great craft and decor ideas, plus getting the word out about your blog.
I love the parties, in fact I host one of my own each Friday (VOTW). Many of you have joined up before, and the rest of you should!
Anyway. I like to add the "button" to each of the parties I join, as a good reminder to me to go visit (and where the good ideas are each day of the week!) and also to keep the links that most party hostesses request. There are so many, it was starting to get unruly on my right side frame bar, when I saw this great idea from Kim @ Cheap Chic Home. (BTW, you should totally hop over there to her blog to see the awesome projects she's done)
She was able to add smaller buttons, and two per line on her right frame. I emailed her, (and emailed her a few more times!) and she graciously explained how to do this (see right frame...)
So if you're interested in doing this on your 3rd frame, here's how:
Option 1: If the blog owner has the code to the button, you're in luck! This is the easiest way. First off, copy the code they provide. It's typically below the button in a small box, like this one on my page:

Option 1: If the blog owner has the code to the button, you're in luck! This is the easiest way. First off, copy the code they provide. It's typically below the button in a small box, like this one on my page:
Back in the layout section of your blog, you should choose the "HTML/Javascript" gadget, and figure out where you want it in the layout. You need to copy this code, which tells the website what image to display, at what size, and what website will be linked when the image is clicked.
The other thing, is you'll tell the website to display the image on the left or right (because two buttons will now fit on one line) because you're also telling the site the size of the image you'll want.
So let's give a practical example:
Here's some REAL code (you could post this right in your gadget for a link to Design-Aholic if you were so inclined :) )
<left><a href="http://design-aholic.blogspot.com/"><img src="http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz145/captaincrzy/designaholicbutton1.jpg" height="75" , width="75" /></a></left>
- The <left tags> (beginning and end) tell the site to put the image on the left side.
- The <a href> tag tells the site what website to link to when the image is clicked. In this case, the link would come here, to Design-Aholic.
- The <img src> tag tells the site what the "name" of the image is. In the case that the code is provided, like we're detailing in option 1, this will already be added in.
- The height="75" , width="75"designation right after the image name tells the site to display the image with the dimensions you specified. This measurement is in pixels.
Option 2:
If code isn't given on the site, you can quickly save the image of the button and add to your photobucket account, or similar web based photo storage solution, where they have an option to copy the code to the direct photo. In my example above, the direct link to the button image I've used is from my photobucket account. It looks like this:
<img src="http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz145/captaincrzy/designaholicbutton1.jpg" (the closing carrot ( ">" ) is after the height and width notes, but is important!
So with either option 1 or 2, each seperate image button will have the full set of code. And, each time you'll want to change the direction to left or right.
Hopefully you can follow this if you want to, otherwise you can send me an email. I really like the look now- much more condensed, and more room to add more party buttons, woohoo!
Enjoy, and good luck geeking out with some coding!

Two Hundred Terrifics!
So, this post comes WAY before I figured it would...
Yep, tonight, Design-Aholic reached 200 Followers!
And, you can all pat yourselves on the back for making that happen. Really, without sounding like I'm accepting a Grammy or an Oscar, I really want to thank each of you. It's fun to challenge myself to try new things, and find something to post about each day. If I look back in my short blogging history, I've only really posted for 2 solid months.

2009 Was a BLOG of a Great Year
2009: What a year! The last few months have been busy to say the least... Why did I have to find the joy in blogging around the same time as taking a new position at work?! I don't have nearly enough time to do all the great projects I find online, but in the last 6 months, I have had some great projects I'd love to reflect on.
Trust me, the best is yet to come, but here, (for maybe only my sake?) is a reminder of what 2009 held for me in the way of posts and projects:
To really ring in the New Year, since I realize there's so much in my life I need to be thankful for, I am starting a new feature. Every week, it's a Small Victories of the Week post. I'd love everyone to link up their stories of a victory they had, big or small, complete or not. I want us to all remember we've got a lot to be thankful for. :)
Here's a button for you to use to display the feature:
Won't you join the party? :)
Trust me, the best is yet to come, but here, (for maybe only my sake?) is a reminder of what 2009 held for me in the way of posts and projects:
JUNE
My first post ever...
JULY
The start of the obsession...
AUGUST
First piece of furniture refinished
SEPTEMBER
all the ideas are flowing now...
OCTOBER
starting to really get into this!
NOVEMBER
Someone stop me! (or don't...)
DECEMBER
so much more to come...
Whew! That's crazy to look back on. Still feels like I have a million things to share :)
And...
Here's a button for you to use to display the feature:
Won't you join the party? :)

HTML Code Flashback
So did you notice it? Yep. I dabble in Website design. *crickets*
Ok, just kidding.
Did you notice the change to the layout of my little world here at Design_Aholic? Welp- I now have 3 columns, instead of just two! Yay- more room for buttons, widgets, lists, and customization!
I had to search for "3 columns in blog" in google search, after the link that Cathe posted over at "Just Something I made" was unable to be found.
I used two tutorials over at "Three Column Blogger"
1. First, how to actually make the third column for my minima template
2. Second, setting margins between columns, and column widths
Both worked fabulously, and now I'm excited to get onto the customization. Damn Blogger- I'm staying up 2+ hours past my normal bedtime now just to read and play around with postings.
Good luck if you need/want to do this to your blog too!
